Load balancing Domain Controllers?

Hi,

I work with a client who has their 2 DC's load balanced by a hardware loadbalancer (F5 or whatever). What benefit does this provide? I am confused as to why this would be done as AD uses its own internal algorithms to route requests to the correct DC under the least amount of load.
