migrate domain controller from domain A to domain B

The same box, I was thinking something along the lines of this:

1. Demote by  DCPROMO

2. Un-join the server from the domain A by joining a workgroup

3. Join domain B

4. Promote the server to a domain controller in the existing domain by  DCPROMO

I can't seem to find anything official on this from MS. Has anyone done this before? I'm curious as to if we'll possibly run into any issues. Any downsides? Everything on the DC will be staying the same, as far as DHCP and DNS goes. We are strictly just changing domain names here and phasing out domain A all together.

We had talked about wiping each DC to be safe, but curiosity has me looking into this to see if it can work and it would obviously be much faster. This would be for about 10 domain controllers across our site.

Any and all help/suggestions are appreciated.

Thanks
