I recently started managing the domain for a company thats been around for 15 years- over the years, AD has been beaten up a bit and I'm trying to clean things up.
Currently, I'm getting an event ID 11 SPN error for the following service/machine:
- MSSQLSvc/BL-SharePoint2010.blah.com:49558 is registered on these accounts:
- CN=AdminBlah,OU=Virtual Users,DC=Blah,DC=com
- CN=Blah SharePoint Administrator,OU=SharePoint,OU=Virtual Users,DC=Blah,DC=com
When I go to ADUC, I can't find a BL-SharePoint2010. Same thing in DNS. I can't find a DNS name for it either. Nor can I manage it or connect to SQL using SQL management studio.
The closest I could find is BL-SharePoint20. When I checked with an admin that's been here for a bit, he said that the name is truncated because it's too long for netbios.
Long story short, my spidey senses say if it's not in AD or DNS, it doesn't exist and I can go ahead and delete it. But since I just got here and the admin who advised me has ben here for a long time, it seemed worth a reality check with you kind souls. Anybody heard of this type of behavior in AD before? Am I safe to delete these SPNs?
