Hello,
We have a third domain controller that was powered off and never used again. It was used at one time as a temporary third domain controller. When it was taken out of the network it was not demoted and removed "gracefully." It was just powered off.
Now, I have a need to install another domain controller and would like to give it the same name as the previous one. The computer objects for the old domain controller still exist in Active Directory. I'm wondering if there's any harm in doing a clean Server 2008 R2 install on the new machine, give it the same as the old domain controller, and dcpromo it. Will this cause any issues? The old domain controller had nothing installed other than AD and had no FSMO roles or any other service installed. The other domain controllers on the domain are virtual server 2008 R2 and the domain is a 2008 functional level
I have
Thank You,
