ADPREP /DOMAINPREP /GPPREP error NT5DS has stopped working

Hi

I am in the process of replacing our current Primary DC with another virtual server. I have successfully simulated the process in a virtual lab so I am aware of what is involved.

All of the FSMO roles are held by the above mentioned PDC. I am now trying to extend the schema on the PDC from 2008 to 2008 R2. I am aware that the logged-on user must be Domain/Enterprise/Schema admin.

The ADPREP /FORESTPREP runs first without any issues.

I receive the following error when I run the ADPREP /DOMAINPREP /GPPREP:

NT5DS has stopped working.

Details on the error:

Problem Event Name: APPCRASH

Event Viewer pretty much says the same thing (no other errors in event viewer):

Faulting application adprep.exe, version 6.1.7600.16385, time stamp 0x4a5bc92d, faulting module ntdll.dll, version 6.0.6002.18005, time stamp 0x49e0421d, exception code 0xc0000374, fault offset 0x00000000000aef37, process id 0xadc8, application start time 0x01ccd1dcbc0f4d84.

I had a look at the ADPREP log file under C:\WINDOWS\DEBUG\ADPREP\LOGS\%datestamp%\ and did not immediately see anything out of the order (I don't know if I overlooked something).

Any suggestions / help please?

Thank you
