Hi,
I've read lots of post and articles on the event 2042 but just wanted to check my plan
Child domain has 2 DCs running W2K8, child domain is also in its own site which only has the 2 child domain DCs in it. 2042 in the event log on the ISTG for that site. I have identified lingering objects in the forestdnszones partition.
Root domain runs a mixture of w2k3, w2k8 and 2k8r2 DCs
1)remove lingering objects
2)Demote (force if necessary) the DC in the child domain with the 2042 errors
3)Metadata cleanup in child domain
4)ISTG should have been moved to the other DC in the child domain
5) check replication has now resumed
6)rebuild and put additional DC back in
Does the above look to be the correct plan?
I prefer to demote and re-promote rather than remove the lingering objects and then disable strict replication to get things working again.
Thanks
Paul
