One of our domain controllers appears to be seriously wrong, it's no longer distributing IP addresses on the DHCP server and the event viewer is filled with Active Directory related errors (I've listed some of them bellow). After some searches it appears that re-joining the server will be the easier fix for this domain controller?
So assuming this is the best fix, I'm planning to simply demote/repromote this DC (I have another DC in the same domain that has all 5 FSMO roles). My question is, do I need to perform ameta database cleanup before re-joining this DC to our domain?
These are some of the errors I've seen event viewer:
The Kerberos client received a KRB_AP_ERR_MODIFIED error from the server dc2$. The target name used was ldap/dc2.DOMAIN.NAME.CO.UK. This indicates that the target server failed to decrypt the ticket provided by the client. This can occurwhen the target server principal name (SPN) is registered on an account other than the account the target service is using. Please ensure that the target SPN is registered on, and only registered on, the account used by the server. This error can also happen when the target service is using a different password for the target service account than what the Kerberos Key Distribution Center (KDC) has for the target service account. Please ensure that theserviceon the server and the KDC are both updated to use the current password. If the server name is not fully qualified, and the target domain (DOMAIN.NAME.CO.UK) is different from the client domain (DOMAIN.NAME.CO.UK), check if there are identically named server accounts in these two domains, or use the fully-qualified name to identify the server. The time service encountered an error and was forced to shut down The WinRM service failed to create the following SPNs: WSMAN/DC1.DOMAIN.NAME.CO.UK; WSMAN/DC1. The processing of Group Policy failed. Windows could not resolve the user name. This could be caused by one of more of the following: a) Name Resolution failure on the current domain controller. b) Active Directory Replication Latency (an account created on another domain controller has not replicated to the current domain controller).
