Hello guys,
Our domain has two DCs (DC1 and DC2) running Windows Server 2008 SP2. Functional level is 2008.
DC1 is currently restarted to DSRM mode and it has several JET database errors on Directory Services log. All FSMO roles have been already transferred to DC2. There's no other roles, applications or file shares on DC1 (except AD DS and DNS server).
Because OS on DC1 is still operational, I'm going to forcefully demote DC1 and then promote it again using same computer name and IP address
My action plan is as follows:
- forcefully remove Active Directory from DC1 using command dcpromo /forceremoval /uninstallbinaries
- delete DC1 computer account from AD database (this deletes metadata as well) using AD UC on DC2
- delete Server object from AD SS
- Go through msdcs and domain.local DNS zones and delete all records related to DC1
- install AD DS role and promote to DC
Just wondering if these clean-up steps are sufficient so I can promote DC again using the same name without problems?
Thank you again guys!!
