The trust relationship between this workstation and the primary domain failed

Hi ,

We are facing a strange(atleast for me) issue with two of our server's running 2008 R2. When we try to login as domain administrator we get this error.

"The trust relationship between this workstation and the primary domain failed"

To fix this we reset the computer account using this cmd NETDOM RESETPWD /Server:<name of any domain controller> /UserD:<domain admin account> /PasswordD:<password> and after a restart it works fine.

But after an random time the users cannot logon anymore and the same error reoccurs.
To our suprise sometimes it becomes normal again automatically.

To add more there are two other serves running 2008 on this same domain working fine. (total there are only four servers added to this domain)
Our domain controller is 2008 R2

Any solution ?

Thanks and Regards

Creating custom attributes for COMPUTER objects only

$

We´ve created 15 custom attributes in AD: Custom01...CUstom015

The idea it was to use for a HR application and works fine

But someone has noticed that the Custom01...Custom15 attributes were available for computer accounts too, therefore, someone has begun to use the custom attributes (primarly targeted for users) to fill differente information for computers too.

I think that maybe the computer objects have the same custom attributes as usres, beucase they´re auxiliarry class or maybe something deeper in AD schema

There is a way to create custom attributes and make sure that ONLY users will be able to use it?

There is a way to create custom attributes and make sure that ONLY COMPUTERS will be able to use it?

Os, like my case, once created, all custom attributes are widely available to all objects/classess?

Hi Guys,

I have been working as Active Directory Administrator since last 4 Years.

I am worried about my career after I heard of companies migrating to Office 365 to save their IT cost.

I would be glad, If could help answers few of my questions.

1. How much will this impact Active Directory Administrator?
2. What should I do to sustain in IT Industry?
3. Will Microsoft completely drop support and product release for Active Directory on-premise servers?
4. Will Azure AD (AAD) replace on-premise AD (ADDS) servers?

Please share your views, suggestions.

Hello guys,

The sympton is the same as the one in https://i1.social.s-msft.com/globalresources/Images/trans.gif?cver=0%0d%0a"The server does not support the requested critical extension." Exception.

I got the error in calling IDirectorySearch::GetNextRow. As I observe, the error is trigger when retrieving the another page of records. The LDAP path to connect is "GC://<FQDN_of_GC>". The search filter is (&(|(objectClass=group)(objectClass=msExchDynamicDistributionList))(mailnickname=*)). There are about 100 thousands of group objects in the forest. So the answer in that thread does not help.

Any thoughts?

Thanks.

AD environment with non-domain-joined clients

$

Coming from an academic environment we are currently in the process of completely redesigning our AD/client/network infrastructure. As part of the new concept the idea came up of having non-domain joined clients for a rather large group of users that have full (local) admin access and usually have the freedom to do (nearly) everything they want on their machines. why we came up with the idea and what we would like to achieve (and some of the following points are not yet checked for feasibility):

*) we want to treat these clients as "non-trusted", that means we want to put them into a separate VLAN and reduce network traffic / open FW ports between these clients and our DC network to a minimum.
*) in order to use services of our infrastructure we want the (local) user to receive a kerberos ticket (TGT) for his domain user and then use this ticket for SSO into other kerberized services in our infrastructure (file / printing / mail client / webapps / ...)
*) in the end we want to authenticate the user and not the machine. in fact, the underlying device should be completely irrelevant.

so of course a number of questions comes up quickly ;):

*) what would be the best way to request the TGT in the first place (since its not happening at logon)? could ADFS be of any help achieving this, maybe with a webbased ADFS authentication portal?
*) what services/ports would we need to let through the FW? right now we are thinking of kerberos(88), DNS(53), maybe LDAP(389). are all the dynamic (and static) RPC/DCOM ports necessary in this scenario?

we will be building a POC soon, but maybe someone can make a call if this is feasible at all?

thanks!

AD Site renamed and DFS error (dfsdiag) regarding wrong static site association

Community

I am running DFS-N and been facing a few issues over the past few weeks. Occasionally unable to access DFS share, my Home share mapping disappearing on the client, etc. Most of the times it works fine, but ideally I would like to get to the bottom of this.

So I ran "dfsdiag /testreferral /dfspath:\\root\homeshare /full" and it gave me the following error

Success: The site associated with the following host name is consistent on all accessible domain controllers: DC-02
Validating the static site association by accessing the registry.
Error: The static site-association of the following host name is not consistent with the site-association in Active Directory Domain Services (AD DS): DC-02
Finished TestSites.

A while ago I renamed the AD Site where this particular DC is located. As this was done more or less at the same time as I did the DFS-N implementation, I don't know whether this site rename is the cause of my problems.

The error is referring to registry. Does anyone know where in registry this information is stored and whether this error could cause issues I mentioned above?

Some help would be greatly appreciated.

Regards,

Thomas

I am facing issue with few users as their AD ID is getting locked frequently.

Observation:

During account lockout, security event ID 4740 is getting generated on the domain controller.

In Additional Information the "Caller computer name" is blank.

Based on various technet & other blogs caried out troubleshooting with below tools.

* lockoutstatus,

* ALockout.dll

*Psexec.exe

*cmdkey.exe

*Aloinfo.exe

*FindStr.exe

*Netwrix.exe

*ADLockouts.exe

*NlParse.exe

The only identified hostnames with few of the tools are users own hostname, hostname of DC & RADIUS server. But still no saved of any specious program or service found on the system or servers.

Does anyone have idea regarding this issue.

Pls find below snap for the same.

Remote desktop user setups not saving

$

Hi,

Forgive me if this has been answered before and please point me in the right direction as I have failed to find an answer so far.

I have a two server setup (both 2012, one DC and the other a remote desktop machine).

Using AD, I have created all the users necessary and given appropriate permissions. All users are part of the Domain Users group as well as being members of Remote Desktop Users (other permissions ad hoc as required).

However, I have two users whose settings are not being saved when they disconnect from an RD session.  Essentially, they are treated as first time users when returning to a session - which means useful things like email settings and access to our database software have to be reset every single login.  It's beginning to grate a little!

I have scratched my head, tried different settings for the users, added and removed priviledges, banged my head off the desk, had a quick peek at the registry (not that I'm really sure what I'm looking for - Google has not been helpful here either), and even tried creating new users to start afresh (using different names for login purposes in case of any sneaky links the server might make to old info).

Nothing has worked and I have two frustrated colleagues (not to mention myself).  It is particularly annoying since everything was working fine before Christmas and no one has had access to the machines from 22nd Dec until 5th Jan (office was closed). I would expected something like this to affect all users rather than just two (plus the newer test accounts too).

In summary:

Users log on - have to setup up all software from scratch (email settings, database links, etc)

Users disconnect - these settings disappear

Users log on next time - repeat step 1

As I say, any help gratefully received.

Why LDAPRC = 1 is returned by LDAP_SEARCH

Hi All,

Customer is trying to search a user in LDAP transaction in SAP system. When he is trying to search a user with root directory of LDAP server say DC=xyz,DC=com,DC=ab with Search Depth as "BASIS Entry Only", then it is showing one result.

But when customer selects the Search Depth as "One level Below BASIS Entry" or "Basis entry and all levels Below" with same Domain name then LDAP transaction is throwing an error message "Operation Failed".

When I checked in debugging mode, LDAP_SEARCH method is returning LDAPRC = 1, which is same error message i.e. Operation Failed. But I am not able to find why this error message is coming.

I am not LDAP expert therefore not able to find the root cause. Kindly assist me as customer is asking daily updates.

Please let me know in case more details required and direct it to right forum if I have put it in wrong one.

Thanks & Regards

Integrating MS Active Directory with Pentaho

I have MS Active Directory setup on Windows 2008 R2. I created two groups 'Admins' and 'Devs' under the default group Users. I added two users in 'Admins' group with Administrator rights and one user in 'Devs' group. I am trying to login with admininstrator user 'kishank' but I am getting the following error:

[LDAP: error code 49 - 80090308: LdapErr: DSID-0C0903A9, comment: AcceptSecurityContext error, data 52e, v1db1 ]

I googled upon this error which says invalid user or password. Here's the link: It gives description about error code 49 DSID 0C0903A9. It says that the error only occurs on MS AD servers.

I also read somewhere that I should uncheck "Password never expires" checkbox for users but no luck.

My configuration files are as below:

Security-Kerberos Event ID 4 KRB_AP_ERR_MODIFIED for DC, target name cifs/domain

I've been finding this event in logs on computers in my domain recently.  I've seen it on a variety of servers and workstations, so I think it's probably affecting all domain members.  The specific domain controller mentioned in the text of the event varies, it could be any one of our domain controllers.  I'm not sure when it started.  I've been trying to search for a solution, but so far I'm not finding anything that quite fits.

Log Name: System
Source: Microsoft-Windows-Security-Kerberos
Date: 12/22/2014 10:21:55 AM
Event ID: 4
Task Category: None
Level: Error
Keywords: Classic
User: N/A
Computer: HOST.DOMAIN.COM
Description:
The Kerberos client received a KRB_AP_ERR_MODIFIED error from the server DOMAINCONTROLLER$. The target name used was cifs/DOMAIN.COM. This indicates that the target server failed to decrypt the ticket provided by the client. This can occur when the target server principal name (SPN) is registered on an account other than the account the target service is using. Ensure that the target SPN is only registered on the account used by the server. This error can also happen if the target service account password is different than what is configured on the Kerberos Key Distribution Center for that target service. Ensure that the service on the server and the KDC are both configured to use the same password. If the server name is not fully qualified, and the target domain (DOMAIN.COM) is different from the client domain (DOMAIN.COM), check if there are identically named server accounts in these two domains, or use the fully-qualified name to identify the server.

How can I track down the cause of this issue?
