Hi all, let me briefly explain situation:
I was assigned to help small local company to migrate their DC from 2003 SBS to 2012.
I've installed new hardware in place, installed 2012 (evaluation) with AD DS, connected to domain, and migrated all FSMO roles to the 2012 server, ensured that domain is working properly, and now im preparing to shut down the old 2003 SBS.
Problem is our sales team called me and informed me that this company purchased licence for 2012R2, so therefore i need to updadte 2012 to 2012R2
I've set up small lab in home to check the possibilities. I've set up DC on 2012 evaluation, then i connected the 2012R2 evaluation iso, done adprep /forestprep and adprep /domainprep, but then when selecting update from 2012R2 installer it gives me error that 2012 eval cannot be upgraded to 2012R2 eval.
Any thoughts on this ? Should i activate 2012 first and then try to update ?
Question no:2 im not familiar with licensing, can i run 2012 on 2012R2 licence ?
I've figured workaround to install hyper-V on DC, create one VM with 2012R2 on it, connect it to domain as DC, move all FSMO roles to this DC, back it up to vhdx and then format whole machine and restore from vhdx, but its a lot to do, and a lot possibilites to fail, i think single OS update would be better.
Thx,
Bart
