Hello,
I have three existing domain controllers in two sites. DC1 and DC2 are in SiteA. DC3 is in SiteB. I have recently added a new DC4 to SiteA, replicated and transferred all FSMO roles to it. All DCs are DNS and Global catalog servers.
Currently DHCP clients point to the DNS of DC1, DC2, and DC4 on siteA in that order.
DC1's DNS client settings point to DC1, DC2, and loopback in that order.
DC2's settings point to DC1, DC2 and loopback in that order.
DC4 point to DC1 and loopback in that order.
Since I am going to be decommissioning DC1 and DC2 I would like to set DC4 DNS clients correctly so that it is using it's own DNS as primary because the others are not going to be there shortly.
What is the best way to get this done. Can I just point DC4 to itself now and then go decommission DC1 and DC2 without making any other changes? Do they need to point to DC4 as secondary DNS now? Is there another step I should perform?
