I will be attempting to migrate from exchange 2003 to exchange 2010, so i am in the prep stages, and i found a problem with the AD.
Our corporate AD has one Root domain, (I’ll call it, Corp.com) and one child domain, (I’ll call it, na.corp.com). na.corp.com is functioning at Server 2003. The Forest Corp.com shows a functional level of Windows 2000 after i ran theExchange 2010 Pre-Deployment Analyzer. All Windows 2000 PDC have been off the network for almost 9 years, and were properly demoted and removed. I guess the one place i didn't look was at the Forest level.
I opened the AD Sites and Service mmc plugin on the corp.com server and did find the old Windows 2000 PDC listed with the Servers. I drilled down into the containers for the old server, deleted
everything, and was able to delete the W2K PDC. I
still cannot raise the Forest level however. I also noticed that domain replication has errors, (8614, 1908, 1256, and 8606), so i have a bit of a mess, and i am not sure how to fix it.
When i try to raise the Forest level this is message box get:
(To update the forest functional level, the domain controllers in the forest must be running the appropriate version of windows, and no domains in the forest can have a domain functional level of Windows 2000 mixed or Windows Server 2003 interim.
Forest root domain name
cw.com
Current forest functional level
Windows 2000
The following domains include domain controllers that are running earlier versions of windows:
Domain Name Domain Controller Version of Windows
The following domains must be updated to a domain functional level of Windows 2000 native or Windows Server 2003:
Domain Name Current Domain Functional Level
na.corp.com Windows 2000 mixed)
I am trying to resolve the replication issues, so in the mean time i ran a DCDIAG /test. The root DC cannot connect to the one of the domain controllers there seems to be a DNS issue, i am not sure how to fix. i will add the log file here. How do i attach the DCDIAG log file.
Thanks
