Description: If I install an application (such as AOL Instant Messenger) using the local administrator account (.\administrator) or a domain (Windows Server 2033 R2) account that is a member of the Domain Admins group the application is not accessible to users who are not in either of those groups. If I login to the computer using the local administrator account I can verify that the application is installed on the local computer but there are no icons or folders in the start menu to access the application (or even in the add/remove programs dialog box) when logging in to a standard user domain account.
This is a Windows Server 2003 R2 Active Directory (AD) environment. Additionally, this issue began occurring after I began taking user accounts out of the domain admin group who are not truly domain administrators (in an effort to increase the security of the domain).
This is the first time I have seen this issue occur and I am a little puzzled at this time.
