Hello,
I'm having a bit of a problem and I'm I'm hoping for some assistance. I setup a new Windows 2008 R2 server onsite alongside a Windows 2003 R2 SBS server. I added the 2008R2 server to the domain, transfered the fsmo roles to it, and then move the client applications to the new server. Everything was working great. Then the 2003 R2 server started shutting down due to the issue with the SBS single domain requirement. This was no problem as we planned to get rid of that server anyway. I tried to remove AD from this server and it tells me that it's the only domain controller. I check in AD Sites and Services and the new server is listed, it is the GC, under connections, it lists the old server, and when I try to run dcpromo, it tells"Before you can install or remove AD Domain Services you must remove AD Certificate services. For information about the consequences of removing Active Directory Certificate Services, see help and support." So it has AD loaded on it. I did a netdom query for domain controllers and both servers are listed. When I do a netdom query for pdc, it list the new server and the fsmo query returns the new server for all items. I'm tempted to remove the AD from the old server, but if I'm wrong, I'll be rebuilding a domain in a live network and have to relink all the workstations to the domain. What can I do to figure out what is going on and fix it? Almost forgot to add this:
Event Type: Warning
Event Source: DNS
Event Category: None
Event ID: 4013
Date: 8/7/2013
Time: 1:30:35 PM
User: N/A
Computer: WINDOWS-IFPDLB8.robinson.local
Description:
The DNS server is waiting for Active Directory Domain Services (AD DS) to signal that the initial synchronization of the directory has been completed. The DNS server service cannot start until the initial synchronization is complete because critical DNS data might not yet be replicated onto this domain controller. If events in the AD DS event log indicate that there is a problem with DNS name resolution, consider adding the IP address of another DNS server for this domain to the DNS server list in the Internet Protocol properties of this computer. This event will be logged every two minutes until AD DS has signaled that the initial synchronization has successfully completed.
For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.
I'm going to be looking into this error, but I wanted to post first incase anyone had useful information.
Thanks,
Jeffery Smith
BTW, that is not the correct name of the server. It was probably the original name issued to the system, but the correct name of the server is BRDServer2013.robinson.local. Don't know why it's got the computer's original name. I'm guessing that is part of the problem.
