Hi,
I came across an interesting situation, whereby a set of 3 DCs in a domain are spread across different datacenters (Well 2 in the same DC, 1 in another). Is this a supported design? The first issue would be that there'd have to be an internet connection for each DC to go across the internet to find the DC(s) in the other DC, which is thus multi-homed and a bad idea. Is there any other issue? E.g. replication latency.
Another question - if a DC is not a GC, does this mean it does not serve login requests? And if so, what purpose does this achieve? (Is there any practical reason for this). If a DC is not a GC, what will show up in domain controller type (when you go to Change Domain Controller in ADUC). The GC concept, in that it is an index for the domain, is straightfoward and I've read a bit on the role of a GC, but not sure on this question.
Thanks
