I have (2) windows 2003 SP2 domain controllers. One server (w2k) is my primary DC located at headquarters and the additional DC (w2k-bdc) is located at our off site data center. My plan of attack is as follows:
Add new Windows 2008 R2 SP1 server (w2k-dc1) in headquarters. Run ADPREP32 on current primary 2003 DC (w2k). Promote 2008 R2 server to a DC by running DCPROMO.
Transfer FSMO rules from 2003 DC (w2k) to 2008 R2 DC (w2k-dc1). Upon completion demote the 2003 DC (w2k) by running DCPROMO. Disjoin the 2003 server from the domain. Remove 2003 server.
Add new Windows 2008 R2 SP1 server (w2k-dc2) in datacenter and promote 2008 R2 server to an additional DC by running advanced DCPROMO. Replicate data from w2k-dc1. Upon completion demote the 2003 DC (w2k-bdc) by running DCPROMO. Disjoin the 2003 server from the domain. Remove 2003 server.
Any further guidance is appreciated.
