Raise forest functional lever from 2003 to 2008

Hi,

I have domain controller 2003 with forest functional level 2000 and domain level 2008. Another DC is 2008. Can I raise forest functional level on my DC 2003 to 2008 and continue to use 2003 active directory? Can something happent to dc 2003 if I raise to 2008 forest?
