Hi there,
First a bit of background as to why I am asking this. We currently have a fine-grained password policy set on our standard Users to ensure they require a complex password, and change it every 90 days. We did not want to change our default domain policy as this would affect our service & application accounts. The problem is now, when an XP user is forced to change their password at login, they are given the requirements for the default domain policy, and not the fine-grained policy applied to them.
I looked for a fix for this but found on Technet article that suggested, "The recommended approach is to ignore this error message and to make sure that the new password matches the minimum password length, password complexity, and password history requirements that are defined in the FGPP." NOT very useful!
So my question is, if I change the default domain password policy to require complex passwords with a minimum of 6 characters and a password age of 5, will this affect our current passwords if they are set to never expire? I would assume they would never require the above requirements unless changed? Am I right?
Thanks in advance.
