Hello everyone
I need some advice because I am swimming into deep waters at the moment.
I am testing a WinServer 2008 AD with a Linux DNS server. Please note that I do not have access to the DNS server. Once the server was set up I asked the guys (who deal with the Linux DNS) to register its name.
The name of my test server is: testserver1.testad.uck.ac.uk
The AD domain name is: testad.uck.ac.uk
I've been told that the name is now registered with our DNS server and I was also told thattestad is delegated to testserver1.testad.uck.ac.uk.
I have now setup a second computer (testserver2.testad.uck.ac.uk) in order to use it as a second DC. I rundcpromo.exe , choose "existing forest" and "Add a domain controller to an existing domain" Then I type the domain name (testad.uck.ac.uk) in the forest where I plan to install the secondary DC.
I typed the alternate credentials, hit next and I get the following error:
The following error occurred when DNS was queried for the service location (SRV) resource record used to
locate an Active Directory Domain Controller (AD DC) for domain "testad.uck.ac.uk":
The error was: "DNS server failure."(error code 0x0000232A RCODE_SERVER_FAILURE)
The query was for the SRV record for _ldap._tcp.dc._msdcs.testad.uck.ac.uk
Common causes of this error include the following:- The DNS servers used by this computer
contain incorrect root hints.
This computer is configured to use DNS servers with the following IP addresses:193.xx.xx.xxx193.xx.xx.xxx-
One or more of the following zones contains incorrect delegation:
testad.uck.ac.uk
uck.ac.uk
ac.uk
uk
. (the root zone)
I've been told that there is something on the initial DC (testserver1) I have to change but I don't know what that is.
I can confirm that testserver2 can not ping testserver1 but it can ping its IP address.
If anyone knows why I get this error please let me know. Any advice or suggestion is appreciated.
Many thanks.
