Building a test enviornment

Hi Experts !

I am in the process of building a test environment for my company.

Production AD functional level (Both forest and domain) is on windows Server 2008 R2. We have 100K+ users on our AD which is on single domain single forest structure. We have most of the MS products like exchange 2003, 2007, 2010, Lync 2010, System Center 2012 SP1 etc.

I know that the best but risky approach to get a good test environment is by Isolating a DC, seizing roles and doing a cleanup.

My plan is to

Build a New DC on a new subnet

Isolate that subnet

Shutdown the new DC and do a cleanup to remove new DC from production AD

Switch on thew new DC

Seize the FMSO roles

Rename the Domain Name

Cleanup the stale entries for domain controllers, exchange servers, lync etc

Add a fresh installation of exchange, lync etc

Is there any other point to be considered? Is there any limitation on renaming the domain name ?

Any comments/tips/suggestions much appreciated !

Cheerio

Cheers ! Shaba
