Hello,
I have a Windows Small Business Server 2011 in USN Rollback having had Event ID 2103 logged. This happened because I had to restore a 12 hour old virtual copy of the server after a migration to a different physical server went wrong.
I have another live backup domain controller which is Server 2003. The SBS 2011 server has the roles: RID, PDC and Infrastructure. I now have a situation where I'm not sure if the Server 2003 domain controller is running active directory or the SBS 2011. The SBS 2011 server is complaining a lot with event ID 2092 (This server is the owner of the following FSMO role, but does not consider it valid).
I'd like to know the best way to recover from this situation, I think I have two options(?):
1. Delete the Dsa Not Writable=dword:00000004 and hope for the best/if this doesn't work try 2 below (but I don't want to make things worse).
2. Is it possible to transfer the FSMO roles to the 2003 domain controller? I want to then build a new 2008 R2 dedicated domain controller and a 2008 R2 dedicated exchange server. If I transfer and promote the new 2008 R2 domain controller as the PDC etc will it become authoritative for the domain or will the old SBS server give me problems? I need to be able to migrate the exchange mailboxes from the old SBS 2011 server to the new email server when built.
Currently the domain has been limping along for a couple of days.
Any feedback would be appreciated.
Thank you.
