Greetings,
We are currently running Windows 2003 in our network and it's time to replace hardware, so we'll be migrating to Server 2008. At present, we have one domain member running 2008 (with SQL 2005) and another domain member running Exchange 2010. From my past experience with moving from 2000 to 2003, it was suggested to upgrade the fsmo role holder first. Would that still be a valid approach? Looking at a document (Upgrading Active Directory Domains to Windows Server 2008 and Windows Server 2008 R2 AD DS Domains), it appears that 2008 R2 is 64-bit. The only actual server that we'd complete an in-place upgrade is a virtual server. Has anyone run into issues with upgrading virtual servers? After upgrading this virtual server, we'd bring in new hardware with 2008 installed.
Thanks for any thoughts/recommendations.
Chris
