now this is probably a little looking like a request from some hacker on how to do things... it is not! ;-)
We are administering several domains in a forest which all have the same pwd-GPO settings with one of the setting being of course the length eg set to be minimum 8 characters.
Now some time agao we took over administration of another domain of that forest and found out that there the length is set different eg 7 characters, which is against the company's standard.
So our goal is to set the length here to 8 characters as well.
OK, technical no big deal.
Only... noone knows for certain WHY this was set different in the past, the orginal Domain Admins have all long left the company.
Our fear is that if we just set it to 8 characters, that some applications (may be production relevant) might stop working as soon as the users have to change their passwords.
On the other hand there is a strong posibility that no user is using such short pwd anymore as this "application" might no longer exist.
So we have to find out how many users are still using passwords with only 7 characters.
We are definately NOT interested on their whole passwords! all we hope to find out is the legth.
(And on the other hand the security department would never allow us to decrypt pwds anyway...)
Is there any way to accomplish that?
