Here is my brief scenario:
Single Domain Forest with only 2 domain controllers. Both DCs are Server 2012 R2. Both the DFL and FFL is 2003 and therefore needs to be raised to 2008 R2.
With understanding that the OS of both DCs meet the required version and the replication between the two DCs are good. Also, there is no intention of adding a downlevel DC in this environment anytime soon. If so, it will be 2012.
My question is this, does the Schema yet need to be updated on the Schema Master? In other words, is it necessary to update the Schema and is this a best practice method when raising the DFL and FFL? I was told this by a reputable peer but I have doubts about this. It seems unnecessary to me and I do not want to cause an issue with our AD environment trying to update the Schema when I really do not have to.
Please advise.
