Windows Server 2008 DNS server lost _msdcs. records

We have a single AD domain controller running Windows Server 2008.  Late last week, I could no longer add any more clients to the domain and started to get this error:

- The DNS SRV records required to locate a AD DC for the domain are not registered in DNS.
These records are registered with a DNS server automatically when a AD DC is added to a
domain. They are updated by the AD DC at set intervals. This computer is configured to use
DNS servers with the following IP addresses

DNSLint is telling me that the "CNAME records for forest GUIDs" are missing on the server.

And, when I look into the "_mcdcs.ad.imoveinc.com" zone, the only two records in it are the SOA and NS records.

The system has been running without any problems for almost two years now.  The only changes made last week was running Windows Update and installing 14 "Important" updates that were released between 10/17/2011 and 1/3/2012.

While I would like to know how the records disappeared, what I really need to learn is how I can get all the required SRV, CNAME, etc. records back into DNS?
